A Discussion with Dr. Tarek Loubani Dr. Tarek Loubani Dr. Tarek Loubani is a Canadian medical doctor of Palestinian descent. Born in Kuwait, his family immigrated to Canada when he was nine years old. He studied medicine at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, completed his residency in family medicine at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, and finished an emergency medicine residency at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. website: www.glia.org Professor Hani Faris Professor Hani Faris is a professor of Political Science who has served on the faculties of various academic institutions. These include the Department of Political Science and the Faculty of Graduate Studies at Kuwait University, the School of International Service at American University in Washington D.C., and the Center for Middle East Studies at Harvard University. He has also taught in the Department of Political Science and the Institute of Islamic Studies at McGill University, the History Department at Simon Fraser University, and the Department of Political Science and the Institute of Asian Research at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C. Dr. Salahuddin Bibi Dr. Salahuddin Bibi was born in Jaffa, Palestine, and was forcibly expelled along with his family during the 1948 Nakba. He graduated from the American University of Beirut with degrees in Biology and Medicine. During his three-year medical residency, he volunteered to care for patients in Palestinian refugee camps and underserved Lebanese areas. Dr. Bibi completed his specialization in infectious diseases in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. For the next 40 years, he practiced infectious disease medicine at the Sutter Gould Medical Foundation in Modesto, California. Professor Rabab Ward Professor Rabab Ward is a Lebanese-Canadian citizen and a professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. In 1972, she became the second woman to earn a doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. In 1981, she became the first woman to be appointed as a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering in Canada. Professor Ward is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Engineering. She is also an International Member of the US National Academy of Engineering and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. Furthermore, she played a major role in establishing the Canadian Society for Women in Science and Technology. Taped: 04/15/2026
